Alexander Trans started training Martial Arts in 2002 at the age of 13, in his home country Denmark. After watching Royce Gracie winning against much larger and stronger opponents from other Martial Arts in the first UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) events, Alexander Trans started training traditional Japanese Jiu-Jitsu since there was no Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu schools where he lived at the time. In 2004 shortly before turning 15, he started training Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and began competing in both Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Submission Wrestling competitions, where he would compete in the Adult division since there were no opponents in his age group.
In 2010 he started competing internationally, winning the IBJJF (International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation) European and World Championships as a Purple Belt that year, and traveled to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil where he won the IBJJF Rio Open Championship, after which he was promoted to Brown Belt and started traveling to Brazil staying for 2-4 month at a time, in search of high-level instructors and training partners. As a Brown Belt he won all the IBJJF No-Gi Grand Slam tournaments, as well as all the IBJJF Grand Slam tournaments in the gi; Europeans, Pan-Ams, Brazilian Nationals and finally the World Championships where he won 9 fights in one day without having a single point scored against him, to win the weight and Absolute divisions. He was elected the “Best Non-Black Belt of the Year” by Gracie Magazine after going undefeated in the Brown Belt division. In 2011 he was awarded his Black Belt at 22 years old, and is currently a 3rd degree Black Belt.
Since achieving his Black Belt he continued competing at the highest level, achieving some of the most important titles of the sport. At the Black Belt level, he is a 2-time Silver Medalist and a 4-time Bronze Medalist at the World Championships, Pan-American Champion, Brazilian National Champion, and 3-time European Champion. He was the first ever male European athlete to win a IBJJF Grand Slam title as a Black Belt and is still the only non-Brazilian male athlete to have won an IBJJF Grand Slam title in the Absolute division, and the only non-Brazilian male athlete to have made it to the World Championship finals in the Absolute division at Black Belt. He has victories over many of the biggest names of the sport and has been on contract with some of the most prestigious professional Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu events in the world, including Copa Podio, ACBJJ, and Abu Dhabi King of Mats.
Alexander Trans started teaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in 2009 and has experience teaching both adults and kids of all skill levels, having taught seminars in North America, South America, Europe and Asia. He lived in Abu Dhabi, UAE for 2 years where he taught Jiu-Jitsu to the students in the public school, and later lived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, training at the famous GF Team Headquarters under Jiu-Jitsu legend, Julio Cesar Pereira.
In 2020 he moved to Dallas, Texas to open Progresso Jiu Jitsu Plano, later opening Progresso Jiu Jitsu Frisco in January 2024. After being away from the international competition scene for a few years, in 2023 he won his 9th medal at the IBJJF World Championships, and retired as a professional athlete. He now dedicates himself to his role as an instructor, focusing on the development of his students at Progresso Jiu Jitsu.
